POLICE VOWS TO ARREST COWRIE IN RUGBY FINALS



Over the last four months, arguably the best rugby league in Nigeria has been unfolding at the Main Bowl of the National Stadium in Lagos. The participants this year have been Cowrie RFC (Rugby Football Club), The Police Machine, Lagos RFC, Young Lions RFC, Ilorin RFC and Gosar RFC.
So far, each of the games has been well attended, with exceptional demonstrations of good sportsmanship, an outstanding quality of rugby, and general high spirits. The last round of this year’s league takes place on Sunday 18 November from 12:00noon till 6:00pm and promises to be an absolute ‘humdinger’. As all of the matches have been very close affairs, the league positions are tight.
The afternoon’s event is free to the general public, and would provide an excellent introduction to those not familiar with this exciting physical game, though possibly not for the faint-hearted.
The first bout features Gosar RFC against Young Lions RFC, which kicks off at 12 noon. This is followed by the battle between Lagos RFC versus Ilorin RFC at 2pm. The remaining teams, however, (Cowrie RFC and The Police Machine) currently sit on top of the league.
There can be only one winner. Therefore, the tenacious Cowrie will face the formidable Police Machine in the final match of the afternoon to decide the overall winner of the league; this promises to be a contest of fireworks, and spectators can expect to see a display of blood and guts. Both sides have the desire, tenacity and ability to win the grand finale, but only one side will be crowned as champions.
Individual Prizes on Offer
The battle for who wins the highest Try scorer will be fought for between Police Rugby Football Club Fly-Half Samson Yahaya, Ilorin Rugby Football Club Percy-winger Ibitaye Ifeoluwa, who have both scored 9 Trys respectively & John Olawale of Cowrie Rugby Football Club who have scored 8 Trys.
Also the Highest Points Scorer is keenly contested for by Azeez Ladipo of Cowrie Rugby Football Club with 68 Points, and Samson Yahaya of Police Rugby Football Club who have scored 65 Points respectively.
Meanwhile 72 Players have so far scored points during the 2012 “Friends of Rugby” League program.
Police Rugby Football Club Vows to Arrest Cowrie RFC
The Police Rugby Football Club have vowed to arrest the unbeaten run of the defending champions Cowrie Rugby Football Club who have so far gone unbeaten in the last two edition of the “Friends of Rugby” League.
The Police Rugby Team have decided to play the game of their life at the finals against Cowrie Rugby Football Club on Sunday by 4pm in the star match of the day. Even if the win they will not win the league, but they have vowed to dent the 100% unbeaten run of the back to back defending champions.
The winners of the League have been guaranteed a trip to play in the prestigious Dubai 7’s Rugby Tournament in two weeks time.
All rugby fans and lovers of the beautiful game of rugby are cordially invited to this epic finale come Sunday 18 November 2012 at the Main bowl of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Admission for the public is free.
