The Concession board of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation once again snubbed the Nigeria Olympic Committee & the National Sports Commission on the inauguration date requested of them by the NOC President Eng. Sani Ndanusa and communicated to them by the Secretary General Mr. Tunde Popoola in a mail immediately after the aborted inauguration which was boycotted on the 24th of May 2011.
The Nigeria Olympic Committee Secretary General had in his reply mail to Mr. Kayode Oguntayo on the aborted inauguration of the newly elected board of the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation midwifed by the NOC & NSC in the last five months requested for a date & time to be communicated before the 3rd of June 2011 which was on 3rd, June, 2011. This directive unfortunately was once again ignored by the concession board President Dr. Richard Ajayi & Mr. Kayode Oguntayo.
In the communication by the NOC Secretary General, which read, "I confirm receipt of your letter a few minutes to the planned inauguration of your Rugby Federation yesterday 24th May, 2011 at the NOC Office, Lagos.
We appreciated the reasons for the inability of the President and members not being present at the occasion.
It is however, noted that eight (8) members of the Board were present for the inauguration. We however, postponed the event.
We would therefore in the light of this wish to be advised of an appropriate date and time suitable for the President and members for the inauguration.
Can we have the date and time before the end of the next week ending 3rd June, 2011".
With the way the concession board of the Rugby Federation are going, one wonders the sincerity to which this factional head of Rugby in Nigeria hope to resolve the lingering leadership crisis rocking the Federation which have brought the game to its lowest ebb in the country in recent years.
It is hoped that these people who have decided to run the game like their personal property will realize that they were only given the Federation in trust for a period of time and have to be accountable to these sporting authorities, otherwise it may spell doom for the sport in the country, and rob off on all rugby stakeholders in the country.
We hope that they will allow reasoning to prevail and bring all rugby stakeholders on board for meaningful progress of the game in Nigeria.
