BRFCC INFLICTS FURTHER PAIN ON GCIOBCC TO REMAIN UNBEATEN IN DIVISION ONE
The popular Aphorism that says “Form is temporary while class is permanent” was exactly displayed by the defending champions former Ibeju Lekki Cricket Club 1 now BRFCC as they defeated their biggest rivals and champions of four trophies last season Government College Ibadan Old Boys Cricket Club by 80 runs.
The match which took place at the prestigious Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval brought out the innate potentialities of BRFCC who are sitting comfortably on the division one table.
In the absence of Sean Phillips captain of BRFCC who is still on holiday in South Africa Vice- Captain Endurance Ofem who acted as the Stand- in captain won the toss and elected to bat first as they scored 180 runs all out in 47.1 overs.
Onikoyi Ademola, another great batsman for BRFCC showed cricket enthusiasts, spectators and his team mates why his inclusion in the Nigerian Cricket National Team must not be questioned with his 67 runs off 65 balls which included 8 fours and 2 sixes followed by Oyede Leke (21 runs) and Awolowo Lekan (19 runs not out).
However, India’s Ramit Gill from GCIOBCC got the support of team member Obed Harvey from Ghana as they both took two wickets each in the first innings.
The Ghanian left arm all rounder who broke a 13-year-old record against Ibeju Lekki Cricket Club 2 in their last match scoring 173 runs not out off 147 balls lost his wicket early to Saheed Akolade’s pace bowling in the third over as GCIOBCC crumbled on 100 runs all out in 23 overs.
Oluwaseun Odeku captain of GCIOBCC team which is known for their previous batting performance did not display the sort of form that makes followers of Iris Smart Technology Club Cricket Committee League in Nigeria identify them as a good side with the duo of WicketKeeper Segun Olayinka and Onwuzulike Chimezie top scoring with 21 runs each while Osita Onwuzulike had 16 runs.
Leke Oyede ensured his superb bowling was too much for GCIOBCC to cope with by grabbing 5 wickets for 27 runs in 6 overs which earned him the best bowler for the day and a special Baggy cap that was given to him by the Team Manager of BRFCC Mr Owolabi Oduguwa but presented by the Vice-Chairman and a player of BRFCC Mr Femi Solebo.
With that famous win over the Ibadan based side, BRFCC have comfortably cemented their place at the top of the division one standings as well as remaining unbeaten this season with four matches already played.
FGCWOBCC GETS BACK TO WINNING WAYS AFTER DISPATCHING NEWLY PROMOTED LACC
Federal Government College Warri Old Boys Cricket Club rediscovered their winning formula when they defeated newly promoted LACC by 117 runs after losing their last match against table toppers BRFCC.
The warri-based side batted first scoring 264 runs for loss of 9 wickets in 50 overs with the quartet of Femi Oduyebo (57 runs off 39 balls), Omozejele Frank (48 runs off 69 balls), Okwudili Emmanuel (38 runs) and WicketKeeper Prosper Mgbanwa (26 runs) all of which made the LACC bowling look ordinary in the first innings as they smashed fours and sixes.
Srimivas for LACC took 5 wickets for 46 runs in 10 overs to emerge the best bowler for his team while Mathais added 2 wickets.
In the second innings LACC’S trio of Balakrishnan (36 runs), Sharma (27 runs) and Anil Gopwani (17 runs) did well with their bats as FGCWOBCC bowlers made life uncomfortable for the Asians in the batting crease. Newton Ikewanso led the bowling onslaught with his 4 wickets for 15 runs in 5.2 overs, Olabiwonu Kehinde 3 wickets for 26 runs, 1 maiden in 8 overs and Bakare Taiwo 2 wickets, 37 runs in 6 overs reduced LACC’S score to 147 runs all out.
The Roland Ilube captained team have now won three of their four matches to remain second on the division one log.
